Census 2010

     So, I was doing my civic duty and filling out my Census 2010 packet this afternoon, and I noticed something interesting.  According to the guidelines, there is no provision for omitting anyone of non-US citizenship.  This basically means that if I have 30 illegal migrant help desk workers from Iceland sleeping in shifts in my 1,200 sq ft apartment, they are all required to be reported on the census in a way that does not distinguish them from naturalized US citizens... effectively adding false weight to my neighborhood in a decision-making process which not only decides congressional representation but funds disbursement.  

     Thinking that this was probably not the best approach to deciding representation or doling out government cheese, I phoned the nice people of the Census office.  The phone representative confirmed that yes, in fact, non-US citizens will be counted in the census and the resulting statistics will drive decisions on congressional district formation and disbursement of government funds. 

Awesome.

Ideals and Ego

The funny thing about ideals and ego... Ideals are the things we want, that we think everyone should want.  Some people even think that those that do not adhere to their line of reasoning are unreasonable and therefore do not know what is best for them.  At this point the idealist may respect the other person's ideas and feelings, or attempt to force their own ideals upon this person they believe is being 'unreasonable'.  Like it or not, socialism is the popular ideal that is being forced by those with the power to do so, whether those subjected to it particularly want to exist under its yoke.  

The Unusuals

You know, this show has kinda grown on me. It doesn't measure up to Life on Mars, but it is interesting. Characters have depth and the plot is good.

Unemployed and productive

My employment with Smart Furniture has now officially ended. So, until I can find gainful employment elsewhere I am keeping busy with some personal projects.  If you get bored, stop by and I would appreciate any critique you can offer.  Especially on design, which is definitely not my strongest area.  Still working on getting the content together, but the themes are almost done on these two:

Brain Flushing

I was going over my stack of bathroom reading tonight, putting some stuff in the 'books'  application in Vox...  It is crazy how much I forget.  I can remember reading a book, and some significant bits and pieces, but it seems like I end up forgetting a lot.  

Example:  I read "From Ritual to Romance" by Jessie Weston to get a better handle on Eliot's "Waste Land".  The book is not really skimable- the language and style are just different enough to keep you from reading it too fast.  I expected that I would remember more of it than I did, but when I pick it up now and randomly pick a bit to read, there is so much I have forgotten (or missed in the first reading).  Am I alone in this?
